Center for Environment’s ‘Sundown on Easy Street’ Scheduled for Sept. 14

The Center for the Environment at Catawba College will celebrate the end of summer with live music and farm-fresh foods on Friday, September 14, at a special event called “Sundown on Easy Street.”

The celebration, which will be held at the F&M Bank Trolley Barn at 6 p.m., is the Center’s new fundraiser. “We hope to engage new friends as well as longtime supporters in the Center’s mission by enjoying a causal evening together,” says Dolly Farrell, the Center’s development coordinator. “Many people do not realize that the Center must raise all of our programmatic dollars each year in order to deliver programs like the Campaign for Clean Air, National Environmental Summit for High School Students and our upcoming Faith, Spirituality and Environmental Stewardship Conference.”

Five sponsors have already signed up for the event: F&M Bank, Susan Cloninger, United Beverages, Dover Vineyards, Rowan Regional Medical Center and Eco Products Inc. Others who would like information on becoming a sponsor may contact Farrell at 704.637.4295 or dmfarrel@catawba.edu.

Tickets, which may be purchased online, are $45 per person or $320 for a table sponsor (eight tickets at $40 per person).  All proceeds will support the Center’s programs.

Live music will be provided by two bands with local roots: No 9 Coal, a bluegrass, rock and jazz band, and Eric & the DiMarzios, an alternative folk group.

Chartwell’s, Catawba’s dining service, will offer everything from hamburgers, black bean burgers and hot dogs, to corn on the cob, fresh watermelon salad with feta cheese and tractor-churned homemade ice cream with fresh berries.

Planning Committee members are Elizabeth Anderson, Susan Cloninger, Joyce Goodwin, Carmony Hartwig and Carolyn Peck.
