Green Campus

Catawba College has taken multiple steps to make the campus more environmentally friendly. In 2004, students in the environmental club, NatureSAFE, revived campus recycling. Later, students in the Environmental Program launched a Campus Greening Initiative that spawned energy and water-efficient measures as well as improvements in waste reduction. The college has ramped up efforts even further in the past three years. In 2007, the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling was established within the facilities department to champion waste reduction and recycling efforts.  

Furthermore, Catawba has joined close to 300 other colleges and universities nationwide in supporting the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment. As part of this commitment, a committee of administration, faculty, staff and trustees developed an institutional action plan for becoming climate neutral by 2030. Read more . . .
