The staff of the Center for the Environment at Catawba College will provide information on the link between air quality and health at the 13th Annual Senior Health & Wellness Day Wednesday, March 14, at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center on Highway 49 North in Concord. The Center’s effort is part of its Campaign for Clean Air.

The results of last summer’s Piedmont Carolina air monitoring study will be the focus of a presentation at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, at the Center for the Environment facility on the Catawba College campus. The study was a joint venture of Davidson College’s Dr. Cindy Hauser and the Center for the Environment.

Dr. Viney Aneja, North Carolina State University's Air Quality Research Director and a professor in N.C. State's Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, spoke on air pollution in North Carolina and the causes of surface ozone at the Center for the Environment facility on the Catawba College campus.

Video - Clay Ballantine: Health Effects of Air Pollution

Dr. Clay Ballantine, an Asheville physician and nationally recognized expert on the health effects of air pollution, spoke as part of the Clean Air Initiatives lectures coordinated by Catawba College's Center for the Environment. Drawing on scores of medical studies showing the link between air pollution and respiratory ailments, Ballantine makes a solid case for making the reduction of air pollution a priority at local, state, and national levels.
