Center to Offer Gas Cap Check and Information at Viva Verde Earth Fest April 14
The Center for the Environment at Catawba College will offer a gas cap check and air quality information at the 2012 Viva Verde Earth Fest Saturday, April 14, at North Cabarrus Park. Cars with leaking gas caps will get new caps free of charge.
The service is provided by the Center’s Campaign for Clean Air, which is designed to educate citizens in the community and region and empower them to take action to address the air quality issues the region faces.
The festival, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a joint venture of the cities of Concord and Kannapolis and Cabarrus County. North Cabarrus Park is located at 760 Orphanage Road, Concord. A severe weather make-up date is scheduled for April 21.
Educational exhibits on sustainability, ecology and green practices will be part of the event as will vendor booths with products and services such as organic produce, fair trade gifts, eco‐fashions and items made from renewable resources.
The Earth Fest is billed as a “family–friendly event seeks to promote a better understanding of the environment and environmental issues through experiences and education in order to help the public make positive choices to develop and maintain a sustainable lifestyle.”
Plans for the event include live music, information booths, nature walks, geocaching, reuse roundup, recycling, plant swap, book swap, arts and crafts, music, children’s activities, paper shredding, food and more.
